8 DIY Repairs to Make Before Listing Your Home in Granbury, Weatherford & Aledo

If you're preparing to sell a home in Granbury, Weatherford, Aledo, or anywhere else in Hood and Parker County, small repairs made before listing can reduce repair requests during the buyer's option period. These are common items in inspection reports, and several are easy to fix yourself. Here's where to start.

1. Re-caulk the wet areas

Cracked or missing caulk around tubs, showers, and sinks is a common finding in inspection reports. Re-caulking is a quick fix, but left alone it can let water reach subfloors and trim, which turns a cosmetic note into a moisture problem.

2. Patch drywall cracks and nail pops

Small cracks and nail pops in ceilings and walls can come from ordinary settling or seasonal movement, but they read as “damage” to a buyer scanning a report. A little spackle, sanding, and touch-up paint clears them up in an afternoon.

3. Test your smoke and CO alarms

5. Secure loose handrails and guardrails

A loose stair handrail or exterior guardrail is a safety concern and a common report item. Tightening the mounting hardware often fixes it. If the rail is loose because of rot or a failed anchor, it needs repair or replacement.

6. Make sure deadbolts and doors operate correctly

A deadbolt that doesn't fully extend into the strike plate is a quick fix. Test every exterior door and deadbolt in the house, since buyers notice locks that don't work smoothly.

7. Clean your windows and look for fogging
